- DIAGNOSE AND/OR REPAIR
- PER CUSTOMER COMPLAINT WE INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. WE FOUND THAT THE TICKING NOISE WOULD COME AND GO SOME. WE CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL, GOOD LEVEL BUT FOUND SOME DEBRIS ON THE DIPSTICK. WE REMOVED THE OIL FILTER AND FOUND FINE METAL PARTICULATES. WE STRONGLY SUSPECT THAT THE ISSUE IS A FAILED LIFTER. WE WOULD CONFIRM THIS WHEN WE REMOVE THE VALVE COVER. REMOVE AND REPLACE ALL 4 CAMSHAFTS, ALL 24 ROCKERS AND LIFTERS. REMOVE AND REPLACE THE OIL FILTER, REMOVE AND REPLACE THE PCV, DRAIN AND FILL ENGINE OIL. NOTE: BANK 1 IS 5 DEGREES OFF, BANK 2 IS 2-3 DEGREES OFF. THIS AMOUNT IS LESS THAN 1 TOOTH, CAM GEARS AT 33 TEETH, CRANK IS 28 TEETH). THIS INDICATES THAT THE TIMING CHAINS ARE A BIT STRETCHED.
- DURING OUR INSPECTION WE FOUND THAT THE COOLANT RESERVOIR WAS ALMOST EMPTY. WE TOPPED OFF THE COOLANT AND PRESSURE CHECKED THE COOLING SYSTEM. WE DID NOT SEE ANY LEAKS AT THIS TIME. WE CHECKED FOR HEAD GASKET DAMAGE, NO SIGN AT THIS TIME. WE ARE NOT SURE WHERE THE COOLANT WENT OR WHY IT WAS A BIT LOW.
